This trip in the Whitney Wilderness Area is one of our longest day trips in terms of overall time. We drive approx 50 minutes to the access point and portage 1/3 mile to get to the shore of Lake Lila. Many consider Lake Lila to be one of the most beautiful wilderness lakes in the park. We start at a beautiful beach and head across Lake Lila to a trail head leading 1.9 miles up Mt Frederica. The open rocky viewpoint, about 500 feet above the lake, provides one of the best views anywhere. Optional environmental & cultural history tours available at your request. Note that this is a very full day that can start as early as 8 am and return as late as 6 pm due to the length of the trip in combination with travel distance.
