What is Celebrate Paddling?
This month long festival was created to promote one of the region's most wonderful activities.....paddling! In 2016, SRCO collaborated with Adirondack Lakes and Trails and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail to create a month full of paddling related activities, including classes, guided trips, meetup paddles, presentations, and the Saranac River Cleanup. Over the years, the event has attracted additional support from Mac's Canoe Livery, Raquette River Outfitters, and Guide ADK, expanding the offerings to include a cardboard boat race, film showings at local establishments, the Raquette River Cleanup, and much more.
In addition to offering paddling events, SRCO uses Celebrate Paddling month to promote stewardship and community service. Every year, our river cleanup volunteers pull about 1,000 lbs of trash out of a 2.5 mile section of the Saranac River. They are rewarded with food and beverages donated by local businesses such as Blue Line Brewery, Nori's and Grand Union. Additional support is provided by Adirondack Lakes and Trails, Guide ADK and our friends at the NFCT. If you'd like to participate, this year's river cleanup is Sunday, June 8th!
This year, we will be taking a different approach to Celebrate Paddling. All of our classes will be offered at a discounted rate, and half of the cost will be donated to a different local nonprofit. Please see the schedule of offerings below:
