The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740 mile water trail from Old Forge, New York to Fort Kent, Maine. The route travels through Saranac Lake where thru-paddlers often stop for respite, route information and re-stocking. The trail follows traditional travel routes used by Native American, settlers and guides. It is the largest inland water trail in the nation. We are huge supporters of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail and we welcome paddlers to stop in for route information, re-stocking and other resources.
The trail passes by our shop on the Saranac River just below the Lake Flower Dam in the village of Saranac Lake. We are right at the start of map #3 of the trail maps. For thru-paddlers (and section paddlers) we offer a free & safe place to leave your boat & gear while you are running errands (the post office and library are within 500 ft.), shopping, grabbing a restaurant meal, or staying overnight in a comfortable bed. We can receive and hold your food drop packages for pickup at our store at no cost. For a fee, we can put food or equipment drops together and ship them forward to another destination. We offer transportation to move you, your boat and/or gear to another location. We have maps & books available as resources. We look forward to meeting every one of you.
