This is is a two night, two and a half day trip on the Raquette River. We will camp in the High Peaks Wilderness Area. This is one of the most popular lake and river trips in the park; and for good reason. On day one we will load our packs in Saranac Lake and travel by van to Long Lake Village where we will paddle the nine mile Long Lake. The mountains seem to grow as we paddle towards the High Peaks and our campsite for the night. Day two includes five miles of paddling and a 1.3 mile portage around Raquette Falls, where everyone is expected to help "carry what they can." We will camp the second night at the bottom of Raquette Falls where we will arrive early enough to relax and enjoy the spectacular river trail next to the falls. Our final morning will 'go with the flow' and paddle the 6.5 mile river out to Axton Landing. Our trip meets at our Saranac Lake Base. Your guide will provide tips for paddling, portaging and camp setup as well as prepare great riverside food. This trip is popular with youth groups and families with older children who want more of a challenge.
