This overnight river trip starts as our Saranac River Base. Spectacular mountain scenery, pastoral, and swamp land lead to a 1.2 mile long class II+ rapids called Permanent Rapids (customers must portage this rapid if renting boats from us). This is a nice trip even doing the portage. The whitewater provides an intricate channel at the limit of open canoes. The adjacent portage follows a paved back road and is recommended for all except those proficient in Class II+ or Class III water. Eddy turns, peelouts, and ferrying should be second nature to the paddler who wants to run the rapids. There is good fishing and good camping below the rapids.
