This area was opened to the public by a State purchase in 1998 and provides visitors with a wilderness-like 7 mile lake with possibilities to explore neighboring ponds. This is an "up and back trip" which can vary from a day trip to as many as 3-4 days if you wish to explore the neighboring lakes such as Rock Pond or Round Lake.
The best map for this route is the Adirondack Paddler's Map The Whitney Wilderness.
